Misconceptions About Gandharva War

ACTUAL Story Of Gandharva War. By posting this actual story, I'm hereby gonna steal the peaceful sleeps of Arjun lovers and Karna haters. After knowing the truth, they'll cry. They'll keep crying till the end of time LOL.

Some frustrated haters always start to cry on basis of unfair Gandharva war. As usual we will expose this funny hater conspiracy along with proof.

THIS THREAD IS DIVIDED INTO 6 PARTS:

1) KARNA FOUGHT WITH GANDHARVAS:

2) 1000S OF GANDHARVAS ALTOGETHER ATTACKED ON ALONE KARNA:

3) SOME NOTICEABLE FACTS:

4) ALL 4 PANDAVAS TOGETHER DEFEATED CHITRASEN:

5) KARNA COME BACK TO HELP HIS FRIEND DURYODHANA:

6) AFFECTION OF CHITRASEN TOWARDS PANDAVAS:
-----------------------------------

● PART-1 : KARNA FOUGHT WITH GANDHARVAS

1) First, Karna was not having his Vijaya bow during this fight. He fought with ordinary bow. Infact he used his Vijaya Bow only on 17th day of Kurukshetra War, which combined with his immeasurable prowess gave him an upper hand over Arjun for the most part of the battle

2) All thousands of Gandharva's were blessed by gods of heaven, so each of them was very powerful n equal to maharathi.

3) Karna ALONE fought with all of them. All kuru army ran away from there. There was no one to help Karna. Still Karna alone vanquished Gandharvas.

Sacred-Text :
Gandharva simpetuously rushing towards them with upraised weapons, the Kuru warriors precipitously fled in all directions at the very sight of Duryodhana. And beholding the Kuru soldiers all flying from the field with their backs to the foe, the heroic Radheya alone ‪fled‬ ‎not‬. And seeing the mighty host of the Gandharvas rushing towards him, Radheya checked them by a perfect shower of arrows. owing to his extreme lightness of hand, struck hundreds of Gandharvas with Kshurapras and arrows and Bhallas and various weapons made of bones and steel. And that mighty warrior, causing the heads of numerous Gandharvas to roll down within a short time, made the ranks of Chitrasena to yell in anguish. And although they were slaughtered in great numbers by Karna endued with great intelligence, yet the Gandharvas returned to the charge by hundreds and thousands. And in consequence of the swarms of Chitrasena's warriors rushing impetuously to the field the earth itself became soon covered by the Gandharva host."

##‪#‎Here‬, See Karna nearly defeated gandharva's. He is described as possessor of extreme lightness of hands. He killed 100s of gandharvas with different arrows.
-----------------------------------

● PART-2 : THOUSANDS OF GANDHARVAS ALTOGETHER ATTACKED ON ALONE KARNA:

Understanding karna was invincible Gandharvas decided to have a group attack which was against the RULE OF WAR.

Sacred-Text :
All the Gandharvas then, desirous of slaying Karna, rushed ‪together‬ by hundreds and thousands towards Karna. And those mighty warriors, desirous of slaying the Suta's son, surrounded him on all sides, with swords and battle-axes and spears.

http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m03/m03239.htm

#Here, See 1000s of Gandava's surrounded alone Karna from all side. This was against the rule of war & coward act of Gandharvas, who were no match for Karna
--------------------------------

● PART-3 : FEW NOTICEABLE FACTS:

NOTE-
i) In case of abhimanyu he was unarmed by just 7 warriors whereas here karna is attacked by 1000s.of extremely powerful GANDHARVA warriors
Is it fair to attack on alone warrior by 1000s of gandharvas..??
No, It was clear cut cheating of gandharvas with karna.

ii) According to KMG translation Karna was not drunk but BORI'S translation stats thats Karna was under effect of alcohol.

iii)Majority of gandharva army was already killed by Karna. All 4 pandavas only faced remaining army of gandharvas.

-------------------------------------
● PART-4 : ALL 4 PANDAVA ‪ALTOGETHER DEFEATED CHITRASEN

1) All 4 Pandava Bhima,Arjuna,Nakula & Sahdeva altogether attack on Gandharvas

2) Arjun got gandiva bow in khandav parv & it comes before ghosha-yatra parva, so obviously arjuna fought with celestial bow & he got extra advantage of it.

3) 1000s of Gandharvas never did any group attack on Arjuna nor he was surrounded by 1000s of gandharva's like they all did with karna. Only king Chitrasen attacked on arjuna no one else.

4) Pandava used their celestial weapons like Agneyastra whereas Karna didn't used his celestial weapons.

Sacred-Text :
and in that encounter, the mighty ‪Arjuna‬, by means of his Agneyaweapon, sent ten hundreds of Gandharvas to the abode of Yama. And that mighty bowman, ‪‎Bhima‬, also, that foremost of all warriors in battle, slew, by means of his sharp arrows, Gandharvas by hundreds. And the mighty ‪‎sons‬ of ‪‎Madri‬( nakula & sahdeva ) also, battling with vigour, encountered hundreds of Gandharvas, O king, and slaughtered them all. And as Gandharvas were being thus slaughtered by the mighty warriors with their celestial weapons.

###Here, See all four pandavas altogether defeated Gandharvas only by using celestial weapons.
----------------------------------

● PART-5 : KARNA COME BACK TO HELP DURYODHANA

Karna didn't know Duryodhana was left behind & captured by Gandharvas. As he comes to know about this he came back to help his friend.

Sacred-Text:
towards the small hours of the morning Karna, approaching him, said, 'Fortunate it is, O son of Gandhari, that thou art alive! Fortunate it is, that we have once more met! By good luck it is that thou hast vanquished the Gandharvas capable of assuming any form at will.

http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m03/m03245.htm

###Here, See Karna was coming to help Duryodhana. He found Duryodhana alive & became happy.
------------------------------------

● PART-6 : AFFECTION OF CHITRASEN TOWARDS PANDAVA.

Even Pandavas also DID NOT have ability to defeat Chitrasen. Chitrasen was defeated by Pandavas by his own wish bcoz of affection towards Pandava. Just because he wished, he got himself defeated, which gives these MORON arjuna fans an excuse to say how good their fake hero was.
Moreover Chitrasen worked UNDER Lord Indra (Father of Arjuna), how could he harm son of his master?

Sacred-Text:
[Chirasen said to Pandavas]
The lord of the celestials (Indra) also, having ascertained this purpose of theirs, told me, 'Go thou and bring Duryodhana hither in chains along with his counsellors. Dhananjaya also with his brother should always be protected by thee in battle, for he is thy dear friend and DECIPLE.' At these words of the lord of the celestials I came hither speedily.

http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m03/m03243.htm

HERE, SEE

i) Arjuna was deciple of Chitrasen. Chitrasen was nothing but music and dance teacher of Arjuna

ii) Indra himself ordered Chitrasen to capture Duryodhana & to protect Pandavas

iii) In simple words, Chitrasen never defeated by Pandavas. He was protector of Pandavas. He simply accepted his defeat bcoz of his affection towards Pandava.
------------------------------------

◆ FINAL ANALYSIS:
IF YOU ANALYSE WHOLE GANDHARVA WAR, THEN IT WAS NOTHING BUT PLANNING OF INDRA TO PROVE PANDAVAS SUPERIOR THAN DURYODHANA & KARNA.
GANDHARVA CHEATED KARNA IN WAR. THE SAME INDRA WAS SO MUCH INSECURE THAT HE BEGGED KARNA FOR HIS DIVINE ARMOUR IN FEAR THAT KARNA WILL KILL ARJUNA.

GANDHARVA WAR WAS TOTALLY ‪UNFAIR‬ WAR.

PS : people often ignore the presence of 4 pandavas, because it's always Karna vs Arjun. People quote this war as victory of Arjuna. In actual, It was victory of Pandavas, infact it wasn't even a victory. Chitrasen himself admitted his defeat to stop the war.

    2. Maybe this is a biased blog. But there can be no second thought that it was an unfair war.

    3. How is it an unfair war?
      1. Karna was not drunk (he himself was anti-alcohol). Nowhere is alcohol mentioned, only milk is and it is only Duryodhana who consumed this beverage of milk. It is stated that Karna shot near "perfect" showers of arrows.
      2. Illusions were a part of warfare, karna countered Ghatotkaca's illusions so what's the problem of Gandharva's? Karna was unable to counter this fighting technique, it's his own fault for failure. It is a military tactic to minimize your enemies advantages and your disadvantages while also maximizing your advantages and minimizing your own disadvantages. You must also not forget that their illusion was described as just duplicating each gandharva warrior to ten, to make it look like their numbers multiplied. Such a simple tactic and karna had no answer to it? He was nothing then. A useless warrior.
      3. karna was not outnumbered he only faced a couple hundred gandharvas and he was supported by OVER 100 Kaurava brothers and their allies/ally's.

    4. Better you write a Mahabharata on Your own.... Just note down the mistakes:
      1) In the KM Ganguly book (I Believe you have not the skill to read Sanskrit... If You have, original Vyasa described Jaya is at VHU... Go and read there) there is no mention of Nakula and Sahadeva participating in this war.
      2) Chitrasena came out to see who the warriors are before whom Gandharvas, who are plenty in numbers and who have the war style to attack a single person in thousands, cannot even stand. There he found Arjuna.

Hence, attack of 1000 Gandharvas was not only for Karna, but that was very much there in case of Bhima and Arjuna, since that was the style of war, Gandharvas did follow ( the same style followed by Armies of all Nations now)

    5. How dare you say like that?? The author has seen the war in live in dwparyug and he is parting that to us. Blindly believe what he says!
Karna is parabrahma, no one is more than him as per these morons!. So all hail karna.

  8. Lol panda fans are crying because they know karna is the best ,The gandharvas didn't attack Arjuna the same way they did on karna ,flocking and attacking from all sides in 1000's that too in close range too close they had come without karna noticing with their power of illusions ,I would love to see Arjuna handling such situation ,wait he did on Kurukshetra on ordinary Samspatakas who were about to kill Arjuna if it was not for Krishna !
    KMG Version -

Assailing his steeds, his car-wheels, his car-shaft, and every other limb of his vehicle, with great force, O sire, they uttered many leonine roars. Some among them seized the massive arms of Keshava, and some among them, O king, SEIZED PARTHA HIMSELF WITH GREAT JOY as he stood on his car. Then KESHAVA, shaking his arms on the field of battle, THREW DOWN ALL those that had SEIZED THEM, like a wicked elephant shaking down all the riders from his back

    http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m08/m08053.htm

See the Samspataka soldiers somehow managed to get close to Arjuna where he couldn't do much although he had celestial chariot and the soldiers were mere humans as against Gandharvas who were semi devine still Karna managed to ward them off and flee and came back late ie early in the morning probably where he brought reinforcements because Gandharvas were destroyed everything in front of karna !

    1. No it's because Karna is very overrated and you people make up fake claims and theories to degrade other characters.
In that incident you mentioned do you even know what happened in the ENTIRE CHAPTER? Why are you taking quotes out of context? Arjuna was fighting a 360 (three hundred sixty) degree battle. Arjuna killed ALL OF THOSE who seized him over their. They just touched Arjuna, how is that a defeat? Krishna threw the ones that seized both of them but in the following lines Arjuna also killed those Samsaptakas that had attacked them. Arjuna has protected Krishna more times than Krishna protected Arjuna.
These soldiers were not foot-soldiers they were the SAMSAPTAKAS. They once made Krishna unconscious on the 12th day of the Kurukshetra war. Each of them were mighty chariot fighters and they were all Maharathas.
Now to the Gandharvas only thousands of them were killed by Karna but MILLIONS of Gandharvas were killed by Arjuna. Of course now you will jump to the excuse of Arjuna using Agneyastra to burn the Gandharvas to death. Well a warrior should use his best tools to combat his opponents, i see nothing wrong with what Arjuna did in the heat of battle.
Do you have any evidence that Karna brought reinforcements?

  9. Arjuna was never defeated by any except Lord Shiva in the form of Kiratamurthi. But Karna was defeated by Bhima in bow and arrow combat

    Refernce:-
    http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m08/m08050.htm

"Sanjaya continued, 'Then, O king, Shalya speedily proceeded on that car to the spot where that great bowman, viz., Bhima, was engaged in routing thy army. There rose then the blare of trumpets and the peal of drums, O monarch, when Bhima and Karna met. The mighty Bhimasena, filled with rage, began to scatter thy troops difficult of defeat, with his sharp and polished shafts, to all sides. That collision in battle, O monarch, between Karna and the son of Pandu became, O king, fierce and awful, and the noise that arose was tremendous. Beholding Bhima coming towards him, Karna, otherwise called Vaikartana or Vrisha, filled with rage, struck him with shafts in the centre of the chest. And once more, Karna of immeasurable soul, covered him with a shower of arrows. Thus pierced by the Suta's son, Bhima covered the former with winged arrows. And he once more pierced Karna with nine straight and keen shafts. Then Karna, with a number of arrows, cut in twain Bhima's bow at the handle. And after cutting off his bow, he pierced him once again in the centre of the chest with a shaft of great keenness and capable of penetrating every kind of armour. Then Vrikodara, taking up another bow, O king, and knowing full well what the vital parts of the body are, pierced the Suta's son with many keen arrows. Then Karna pierced him with five and twenty arrows, like a hunter striking a proud and infuriate elephant in the forest with a number of blazing brands. His limbs mangled with those shafts, his eyes red with rage and the desire of revenge, the son of Pandu, insensate with wrath, and impelled by the desire of slaying the Suta's son, fixed on his bow an excellent shaft of great impetuosity, capable of bearing a great strain, and competent to pierce the very mountains. Forcibly drawing the bow-string to his very ear, the son of the Wind-god, that great bowman, filled with wrath and desirous of making an end of Karna, sped that shaft. Thus sped by the mighty Bhima, that shaft, making a noise loud as that of the thunder, pierced through thunderbolt Karna in that battle, like the thunderbolt itself piercing through a mountain. Struck by Bhimasena, O perpetuator of Kuru's race, the Suta's son, that commander (of thy forces), sat down senseless on the terrace of his car. The ruler of the Madras then, beholding the Suta's son deprived of his senses, bore that ornament of battle away on his car, from that fight. Then after Karna's defeat, Bhimasena began to rout the vast Dhartarashtra host like Indra routing the danavas.'"

  10. Some Karna fans saying that when Drona asked for Drupada as guru dakshina, along with Duryodhana, Karna didn't go. This is a lie. They even claim that Dhritarashtra has a son named Karna. Another lie. You can see sons of Dhritarashtra in wiki pages. Drupada defeated Karna, but Arjuna defeated Drupada.

    Reference:- http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m01/m01141.htm

to afflict the hostile ranks with greater vigour. And careering over the field of battle like a fiery wheel, king Drupada with his arrows smote Duryodhana and Vikarna and even the mighty Karna and many other heroic princes and numberless warriors, and slaked their thirst for battle. Then all the citizens showered upon the Kurus various missiles like clouds showering rain-drops upon the earth. Young and old, they all rushed to battle, assailing the Kurus with vigour. The Kauravas, then, O Bharata, beholding the battle become frightful, broke and fled wailing towards the Pandavas.

    1. The word mighty Karna refers to a prince and not the King of Anga. Please give a single line quoting any act of king Karna in that war. Please read carefully and check for yourself. In the same book after the Gandharba war when Duryodhan tried to commit suicide Karna vowed to win over all the kings and his first war was against Drupada whom he defeated easily. He also won over Rukmi, Bhagadutta and many other kings. Please read further and ascertain for yourself that how immature you are in reading and ascertaining the facts.

  11. Karna can not be die because he was having his kavach for both wars which is called as he fled, so there is a point that he must have not taken part or he must just given up for respect of others strength, whereas arjuna just had his immense training and celestial weapons to fight, and whats better karna was little powerful than arjun in kavach but he was against dharma which resulted arjuna being better than karna

  12. Ever since I read that part of Mahabharata I really wondered why people quote that part of Gandharba war to project Arjuna superior to Karna. Infact, the writer has clearly mentioned about the different weapons used by the Pandavas upon the Gandharba army and Chitrasen. But when the case of Karna comes words like valiant slayer of foes, invincible, mighty radheya etc are used. This means that he had not possessing any celestial weapons during that war. But still he overpowered Chitrasen.

    1. When did Karna overpower chitrasen? Lol he never even faced chitrasen he only fought his FOOT SOLDIERS and lost a confrontation to them.

  13. Common sense is that Arjuna used celestial weapons to combat the Gandharvas and also the illusion of Chitrasen was combated by Arjuna using Sthunakarna and Indrajala. Karna had all these weapons too. But he could not combat because it was very close range fight and the archers use different kinds of weapons for close combat. Chitrasen did not fight Karna face to face. But in case of Arjuna his other uterine brothers were there to help him. Its no match to decide greatness of a warrior. Karna never possessed his Vijay Bow till the 17th day of the Kurukshetra war. He had a valid reason for it. If you carefully observe this character, he was already outcast because of his caste and he was striving to get recognition. Hence, in order to prove his greatness in archery he never used celestial weapons and the Vijay Bow till the last day of his life. He believed in his own prowess and was confident to that extent. His celestial KAVACHA AND KUNDALA was also hurting his ego. He must be thankful to Indradev that the latter released him from such bondage of his life which was a great barrier in the path of his show of prowess. We should all admit that despite having the VASAVA DART during Virat war and also till the 14th day of the war he never thought to use it against Arjuna. His thirst was to show his supremacy over Arjuna which he did during the last day of his life. Yes, we have to accept this fact as well that he was defeated twice by Arjuna in Virat war as he could not judge the power of Gandiva. Earlier, in Rangabhoomi and also during Draupadi Swayamvara he had overpowered Arjuna who was without Gandiva. These are the fact checked answers as per BORI CE and Bibek Debroy text. According to those texts Bhima never won over Karna as has been mentioned in KMG and the Sacred texts which have so many interpolations.
