Misconceptions About Virat War

Many people of the idiotic human species called " Arjuna fans" claim that at Virat Yuddh, Arjun defeated the complete Kaurav Army along with amazing warriors like - Bheeshma, Karna and Drona, single handedly. This war is completely OVERGLORIFIED, and is FULL OF MISCONCEPTIONS. The credits of creating the misconceptions goes to the stupid human species called " Arjuna Fans" or simply, ignorant chimps.

Whenever arjun fans are about to LOSE any debate they come back & start to cry on basis of overglorified virat war. In virat war, Arjuna simply used Sammohan astra & ran away from battlefield. As usual we will expose this frustrated haters conspiracy.

Story Of Overglorified Virat War...

THIS THREAD IS DIVIDED INTO 5 PARTS

PART-1 : CELESTIAL ADVANTAGES TO ARJUNA OVER KARNA

PART-2 : HELP OF VARIOUS CELESTIAL GODS TO ARJUNA

PART-3 : SOME NOTICEABLE FACTS

PART-4 : ARJUNA FOUGHT WITH KAURAVA MAHARATHIS

PART-5 : ARJUNA USED SAMMOHAN ASTRA & FLED FROM BATTLEFIELD. (sammohan literaly means "hypnotism")
----------------------------------------

● PART-1 : CELESTIAL ADVANTAGES TO ARJUNA OVER KARNA
1) CELESTIAL GANDIVA BOW vs ORDINARY BOW

a) Most important Karna doesn not posses his mighty vijaya bow in virat war. He fought in virat war with ORDINARY bow which was broken by arjuna. Karna only used his vijaya bow in KARN PARV of kurushetra war as he promised to duryodhan.

Sacred-Text: [ Karna Parv ]
(Karna said to duryodhan)
That celestial and foremost of bows Bhrigu's son gave to me. With that bow I will contend in battle with the mighty-armed Arjuna, that foremost of victorious warriors, like Indra fighting with the assembled Daityas. That formidable bow, the gift of Rama, is superior to Gandiva. It was with that bow that the Earth was subjugated thrice seven times (by Bhrigu's son). With that bow given to me by Rama I will contend in battle with the son of Pandu.

http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m08/m08031.htm

**** SEE KARNA TELLING DURYODHAN THATS HE'S GOING TO USE HIS VIJAYA BOW (FOR THE FIRST TIME) IN KARN PARVA. VIRAT PARV OCCURED BEFORE KARN PARVA, HENCE KARNA DOESNT HOLD HIS VIJAYA BOW DURING VIRAT YUDDH.

b)Arjun fought with his Gandiv bow in virat war. Celestial bows always gave an edge over opponent the speed and effectiveness of arrows get double when striked by celestial bows.

Sacred-Text : (Virat Parv )
Partha received them unto his hands and replied unto them, saying, 'Dwell ye all in my memory.' And obtaining all his weapons, the hero looked cheerful. And quickly stringing his bow, the Gandiva, he twanged it.

http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m04/m04045.htm

c) Ordinary bow of Karna was cut of by arjuna in small pieces...

Sacred-Text : ( Virat Parv )
Arjuna cut off the strings of Karna's quiver by means of a straight and sharp arrow. Thereupon, taking out from his quiver another arrow, Karna pierced the Pandava in the hand at which the latter's hold of the bow was loosened. And then the mighty-armed Partha cut off Karna's bow into fragments.

http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m04/m04060.htm

*****Arjun fought with his Gandiv bow in virat war. Celestial bows always gave an edge over opponent the speed and effectiveness of arrows get double when striked by celestial bows.

2) CELESTIAL CHARIOT OF ARJUNA vs ORDINARY CHARIOT

Arjun already had a celestial chariot...it cannot be destroyed by ordinary arrows..the horses were also very powerful.....the whole chariot body was very strong and its wheels also moved fast......On the other hand Karna fought in an ordinary chariot
------------------------------------------

● PART-2 : HELP OF VARIOUS CELESTIAL GODS TO ARJUNA

1) Arjun was protected by Lord hanuman present at the flagstaff......
2) It was Agnidev who supplied inexhaustible arrows to arjun.......

Sacred-Text: (Virat Parv )
Jishnu returned again to the cemetery and having approached the same Sami tree stood there with body mangled by the arrows of the enemy. Then that terrible monkey(Lord Hanuman) blazing like fire ascended into the sky with those other creatures in the flag-staff.

http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m04/m04066.htm

*****Here, See Arjun's chariot was protected by Lord Hanuman & he posses two inexhaustible quivers...On other hand, there was no one to protect chariot of Karna also he didn't posses inexhaustible quivers like Arjuna.

》》Funny excuse used by frustrated Arjun fans to justify help of HANUMAN

@Propogandas No-1 : Hanuman was there to give stability to Arjun chariot...Hahahaa

This is sign of frustration of arjun fans..There is nowhere written hanuman gave stability...It was direct protection of hanuman to chariot of arjuna thats why arjun's chariot was blasted into ash, when lord hanuman climbed off it..So there is no need to give stability..lol

@Propogandas No-2 : Arjuna fought with all kuru maharathi thats why protection was necessary...Hahahaa.

This is height of frustration of arjun fans..Arjuna NEVER fought with all kuru maharathi at the same time..He fought one by one.. I would like to suggest this morons to read Mahabharat properly..
-----------------------------------------

● PART-3 : SOME NOTICEABLE FACTS

KARNA ALREADY STUPEFIED BY INDRA DEV WHO TOOK AWAY HIS KAVACH KUNDAL.....

In virat war, Karna fought without KAVACH-KUNDAL with which he was BORN. Karna already donated his kavach-kundal much before virat war in Vana parv. Everyone who read Mahabharat knows very well Vana parv comes before Virat parv.

Sacred-Text : ( Vana Parv )
And beholding that hero among men thus cutting his body with an weapon, smiling ever and anon, celestial kettle-drums began to be played upon and celestial flowers began to be showered on him. And Karna cutting off the excellent mail from his person, gave it to Vasava, still dripping. And cutting off his ear-rings also from off his ears, he made them over to Indra.

http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m04/m04066.htm

*****HERE, SEE KARNA FOUGHT IN THE ABSENCE OF KAVACH KUNDAL. IT ALSO MEANS IN VIRAT WAR KARNA POSSES VASVI SHAKTI OF INDRA
----------------------------------------

● PART-4 : ARJUNA FOUGHT WITH KAURAVA MAHARATHIS

Note - Arjuna never fought with all kuru at a time. He fought one by one..

NOW READ THIS CAREFULLY STEP BY STEP

1) Vaisampayana continued, 'Having said these words unto Karna, the invincible Vibhatsu rushed at him and charged a volley, of shafts capable of penetrating through a coat of mail. But that mighty car-warrior, Karna, received with great alacrity that discharge with an arrowy shower of his own, heavy as the downpour of the clouds. And that fierce volley of arrows covered all sides and severally pierced the steeds and arms and leathern fences of the combatants.

***Here, See Karna & Arjuna started their fight

2) And incapable of putting up with that assault, Arjuna cut off the strings of Karna's quiver by means of a straight and sharp arrow.

*****Here, See Arjuna cut the ordinary string of ordinary quivers of Karna bcoz karna didn't have celestial quivers like arjuna as mentioned above.

3) Thereupon, taking out from his quiver another arrow, Karna pierced the Pandava in the hand at which the latter's hold of the bow was loosened.

*****Here, See Karna shot an arrow & try to break the bow of Arjuna...but Arjuna posses celestial bow that's why it was hard to cut it.. Gandiva almost slept from the hands of Arjuna.

4) and the light-handed Karna, unable to bear the sight of the foe, pierced the four horses of the diadem-decked hero with whetted arrows, and then struck his car-driver with three shafts, and his flagstaff also with three

*****Here, See Karna tried to destroy divine horses of arjuna's divine chariot.but they were so powerful. Also he try to destroy flag of Arjun's chariot but it was protected by Lord Hanuman.

5) And then the mighty-armed Partha cut off Karna's bow into fragments.

*****Here, See Arjuna cut the ordinary bow of Karna by using his celestial bow

6)And Vibhatsu slew the steeds of Karna by means of sharp and tough arrows shot from the bow-string drawn to the ear, and deprived of life they dropped down on the ground.

****Here, See Arjuna killed ordinary horses of ordinary chariot of Karna.

7) And taking another sharp and blazing arrow endued with great energy, the mighty son of Kunti pierced the breast of Karna. And that arrow, cleaving through his mail, penetrated into his body. And at this, Karna's vision was obscured and his senses left him.

http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m04/m04054.htm

*****Here, See Karna was weaponless, chariot-less still Arjuna showered arrows n made him unconscious. Thats why Karna leave the spot not battlefield. He didn't went to home. After recovery he came back for fight.

ANALYSIS-
1) In step 3, Arjuna got an advantage of Celestial bow

2) In step 4, Arjuna got advantage of Celestial chariot & help of Lord hanuman

3) In step 5, Karna got disadvantage of ordinary bow

4) In step 6, Karna got disadvantage of ordinary chariot.

》》 Even Pitamah Bhishma also left battlefield for recovery.

Sacred-Text: (Virat Parv )
"Vaisampayana said, 'After Bhishma had fled, leaving the van of battle, the illustrious son of Dhritarashtra hoisting high flag approached Arjuna, bow in hand and setting up a loud roar.

http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m04/m04064.htm

*****Here, See Pitamah Bhishma also left the battlefield. Pitamah also didn't went to home. He came back after recovery.

》》 Pitamah Bhishma & Karna came back for fight after their recovery.

Sacred-Text:
And beholding Duryodhana turn back with his wounds, Karna, that hero among men, decked with a golden necklace, stopped the king on the way and soothing him, himself proceeded along the north of Duryodhana's car to meet Partha in battle. And the mighty-armed Bhishma also, the son of Santanu, turning back his steeds decked with gold, enormous in size, and of tawny hue, rushed bow in hand, for protecting Duryodhana from Partha's hand.

http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m04/m04065.htm

*****Here, See After recovery both Bhishma & Karna came back for fight.
----------------------------------------

● PART-5 : ARJUNA USED SAMMOHAN ASTRA & FLED FROM BATTLEFIELD

NOTE - Arjun suddenly used SAMMOHAN ASTRA which was banned to used in fair war, when he got concerned.. This sammohan astra was FREE GIFT of Indra to his son arjun. By one hand Indra begged for Karna's kavach-kundal & by another hand he gave free gift of sammohan astra to his son arjuna. Sammohan astra doesn't show archery skill of any person, If u gave this astra to shakuni it will not make him greatest warrior.

Sacred-Text: (Virat Parv )
the wielder of the Gandiva who was capable of enduring all foes, evolved another irresistible weapon obtained from Indra, called Sanmohana.

http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m04/m04065.htm

*****Here, See Arjuna cowardly used Sammohan (hypnotism) astra even having protection of lord hanuman & ran away from battlefield.

While everyone were fighting with ordinary arrows, Arjun used SAMMOHAN ASTRA and caused everyone to sleep. Bhishm, Drona, Kripa, Aswadhama, Karna could also have used several other divyastras but they respected war rules and didnt use it.
Karna could have used his VASAVI SHAKTHI and finish off Arjun in a second but he didnt use it..

》》PROPAGANDAS TO JUSTIFY THIS COWARD ACT OF ARJUNA - Arjuna was unable to counter group attack kuru maharathi thats why he did this...Hahahaa..lol

NOTE - Group attack was very common in war. Bhishma faced group attack...Karna faced group attack 7 times...Shalya faced group attack..Duryodhana faced group attack.. There are many incidence where we can found Pandava warriors attack togetherly on Bhishma & Karna.
e.g:-

a) Group-Attack by six Pandava maharathi on pitamah Bhishma..

Sacred-Text:
Bhishma was seen to roll through the midst of crowds of cars belonging to those kings, or to come out (of the press) at times, or course once more through their midst. Then, disregarding the king of the Panchalas and Dhrishtaketu, he penetrated, O monarch, into the midst of the Pandava army. He then pierced the six Pandava warriors, viz.,Satyaki, and Bhima, and Dhananjaya the son of Pandu, and Drupada, and Virata, and Dhrishtadyumna of Prishata's race, with many excellent arrows of great sharpness and dreadful whizz and exceeding
impetuosity, and capable of piercing through every kind of armour. Those mighty car-warriors, however, checking those keen shafts, afflicted Bhishma with great force, each of them striking him with ten shafts. Those mighty shafts, whetted on stone and furnished with golden wings, which the great car-warrior Sikhandin shot, quickly penetrated into Bhishma's body.

http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m06/m06120.htm

*****Here, See All six pandava warrior including Arjuna, Bhima,Satyaki,Drupad, Virata & drishtdyumna togetherly attack on Bhishma, but eventually faced defeat.

b) Group attack of three Pandava maharathi on Karna

Note- Karna alone faced group attack by Pandava maharathi total 7 times..This is only one of that seven

Sacred-Text:
Karna, however, O king, with his arrows, resisted him in that battle in the very sight, O Bharata, of Bhimasena and Satwata.

The mighty-armed Partha, in the very sight of all the troops, pierced the Suta's son, in return, with ten arrows, on the field of battle. Then Satwata(satyaki), O sire, pierced Karna with three arrows. And Bhimasena pierced him with three arrows, and Partha himself, once more, with seven.

The mighty car-warrior, Karna, then pierced each of those three warriors with sixty arrows.
And thus, O king, raged that battle between Karna alone (on one side) and the many (on the other). The prowess, O sire, that we then beheld of the Suta's son was wonderful in the extreme, since, excited with wrath in battle, he singly resisted those three great car-warriors

http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m07/m07141.htm

*****Here, See Arjuna, Bhimasen & Satyaki together attacked on alone Karna. But Karna single-handly resisted all of them.

KARNA & BHISHMA ALSO FACED GROUP ATTACK. KARNA ALSO POSSES SOME ILLUSIONARY ASTRA LIKE TWASRI ASTRA BUT HE DIDN'T USE IT. HE STOOD THERE & VANQUISHED ALL HIS OPPONENTS
----------------------------------------

CONCLUSION :

1) ARJUN FOUGHT WITH GANDIVA AND CELESTIAL CHARIOT WHEREAS KARNA FOUGHT WITH ORDINARY BOW AND CHARIOT....

2) ARJUN PROTECTED BY GODS WHEREAS KARNA WAS NOT..

3) KARNA FOUGHT IN ABSENCE OF KAVACH KUNDAL

4) ARJUN USED DIVYASTRAS WHEREAS KARNA DIDN'T.

5) LIKE ARJUN, KARNA CAN ALSO COUNTER GROUP ATTACKS SUCCESSFULLY......

SO ARJUN ENJOYED ALL THE ADVANTAGES DURING VIRAT WAR HENCE IT WAS COMPLETELY UNFAIR WAR WHICH MAKES THE BASIS OF IDIOT IGNORANT ARJUNA FANS TO SHOW-OFF.

This is the fuckin truth about Indians who fight with each other on something which belongs to Hindu mythology, both are mighty maharathis and both are god incarnations and the fact is that karna is elder than Arjuna and of course powerful than him . It is a universal fact which was said by lord Krishna alone. Moreover Karna can defeat all the five pandavas in their perspective art of war, by the way karna defeated Indra, father of Arjuna, And also defeated shalya where Arjuna failed to defeat shalya.

    4. TO bee honest, this is true. Bhishma wielded the prashwapastra. He was the only one who had that astra and all the other astras. Sammohana astra puts the army to sleep. IF a person uses prajna astra in mid air, then sammohanastra would be destryed and kill the person. Dhrishtadyumna used it against Kauravas which caused them to be unconscious but Drona used his Prajna astra to stop its effect.

    5. drona promised arjuna that he will make him the greatest archer and loved him so much that his son ashwathama never ealized how much drona loved him until drona gave up his weapons and accepted death when he heard that ashwathama was killed. Drona rejected Karna because he was son of suta despite the fact he had kavacha kundala and when arjuna shot the birds' eye with one arrow, he shot it with two arrows. Last but definetly not the least, ekalavya. For a dedicated archer(which ekalavya was) who holds his bow on left hand and shoots with right hand, right hand thumb is more valuable than life and ekalavya gave his thumb away. He was able to shoot arrows on a dog mouth but the dog did not even bleed which arjuna could not do.

This Pashupatastra ws possessed by Arjuna only which ws Lord Shiva's personal favourite weapon, n he got impressed by Arjuna's prowess n gave him. By using it Arjuna cd also kill him easily but he never used it neither in Virata war nor in Kurukshetra war.

Talk about Karna and Arjuna then Arjuna was far superior then Karna , there is not just one but many people's examples
When Drona sent Karna and Duryodhana to defeat and annex Panchal they were defeated by Drupad but after that when Drona sent Arjuna he defeated and captured Druapd

When Duryodhana was kidnapped by Gandharava's , Karn failed to release him and was defeated by them , then Arjuna defeated Gandharava and released Duryodhana

And last but not least who forgot Virat war and Arjuna alone defeated whole Kaurava Army including Karna

I laugh when blind karna fans give excuses of every war but once winner always winner , Karna was defeated many many times but Arjuna was never defeated , this is the reason why he is known as "Mahanayak"

      Delete
    14. And Drona even trained Karna according to Vaishampayan but later he rejected him because of his envious nature , Karna was very envious person who always wants to defeat Arjuna , unfortunately serials portrayed such guy as great

They had 11 in beginning and killed 2 armies in 9 days when Bhishma was not protecting them. On the 10th day, ARJUNA was the 1st person to break the rule. Arjuna hid behind shikandi and shot arrows at bhishma. You are not supposed to shoot arrows at a weaponless person.

It is understandable if Bhima swung his mace on duryodhana thighs because he told draupadi to sit on it which was very inappropriate.

It is very clear that arjuna was not even a match for Drona, leave alone Karna or Bhishma for that matter.

    1. Arjuna was a sensitive human being. He loved Bhishma, Drona, Kripa, Ashvatthama, Kritavarma and never desired to fight them. He paid his tribute to Bhurishrava and Bhagadatta on battlefied whom he had to kill. Krishna had to tell him often to put his heart in war. He put his heart only on14th day to kill Jayadratha and on that single day wiped out 7 Akshuhinis, before killing Jayadratha protected by all. As for Karna he was defeated by Bhima, Abhimanyu and Satyaki as well, without any Vijaya or Gandiva.
There is no point in comapring these heroes all were great. Abhimanyu was greatest on 13th day Arjuna on 14th, Drona on 15th and perhaps Karna, Arjuna, Bhima and Ashvatthama on 17th and Shalya, Yudhisthira, Duryodhana, Bhima, Ashvatthama on 18th. All committed mistakes as well. They were heroes but humans too.

    3. Dear Naveen,

First of all, for your kind information, no one ever has had any doubts about Karna's Daanveerta and his caliber as a true warrior.

Having said that, we must not rate any warrior inferior or superior to anyone. It is not correct on our part to make unworthy comments about any of the warriors that fought in Mahabharata war.

I agree that Karna had a tragic end as a dying warrior in the battle. But that is how he had chosen his destiny by siding with Duryodhana on the path of adharma...

Kindly just for a minute, imagine what would have been the situation if Karna would have been alive after Mahabharat battle ??? Duryodhana would have then be crowned the king because of Karna's far too loyal & generous attitude towards him. This would have created havoc for everyone because of looking back at so many adharmas committed by both Duryodhana & Shakuni in the past.

You may argue that Pandavas were also, at times wrong on their part in taking some of the decisions which could have avoided Mahabharata battle. However, the difference between Pandavas & Kauravas was only that the Pandavas were ready to accept their mistakes & make amends and even forgiving in nature; whereas Kauravas (particularly Duryodhana) had jealousy in them, committed so many wrong things and did not even show any remorse for it.

Also, make no mistake despite so many adharmas committed by Kauravas against Pandavas, initially Arjun was not willing to fight the battle because he recognized the fact that he was fighting against his own brothers and felt sorry at the sight of shedding blood of his dear & close ones !!! Can you point out any single warrior from Kauravas side who had shown so much concern for Pandavas before the battle ???

All I want to say is that we must appreciate the role of all the warriors in Mahabharata battle - It was something which was inevitable and naturally, all Karna fans would feel sad that he had to fall in the Mahabharata battle. But, as I had also said it earlier that this destiny was also chosen by Karna himself despite knowing the truth about his birth & his brothers.

However the fact of the matter is that both Karna and Arjun were actually great warriors on their part. Both were exceptional human beings by nature and were incomparable.

    4. LOL if pandvas were of forgiving nature....then bheem must had not been blood hunt for his own cousins ....it is OK to fight for your right but it doesn't mean to be a beast ...bhim's thirst for the blood of dushashan (sushashan) and duryodhan (suyodhan) is clearly visible... He DRANK the blood of his own cousins ....how can he be treated as forgiving nature.....

      Delete
    5. I think you also know the truth of Mahabharata. LOL at you for playing with the words that 'Pandavas were of forgiving nature' There is no point in making an individual comparison of Pandavas with Kauravas. It has to be a holistic comparison made between 'Pandavas' and 'Kauravas'

As far as Bheema is concerned, he only fulfilled his promise of drinking Dushyasan's blood during the war because Dushyasan was no less than a beast for disrobing and disrespecting the woman who was a 'bhabhi' to him and also the 'Kulvadhu' of Hastinapur.

And have you forgotten the fact that even after 13 years of exile, Pandavas still tried to avoid the Maharabhata battle by initiating a compromise for peace which was unacceptable to Duryodhana.

So, the moral of the story is that if you choose wrong path and cross your limits, you will have to bear the consequences for the same as even forgiveness has its own definite limit.....

  4. It is sad that this article makes a mockery of Arjun.

Actually all 4 were equally greatest archers of that era. It won't be appropriate to rate anyone higher or lower than the other.

Make no mistake Arjun didn't have any intention to kill anyone in the Virat war. The motive of this war was completely different from that of main Mahabharat war. Arjun fought the Virat war only to save Virat Kingdom from being conquered by Kauravas during the agyatvas of Pandavas.

Plus Bhishma, Karna and Drona had to fall during the Mahabharat war because of the boons or curses that needed to be accomplished so as to become the underlying cause for each one of their deaths. And by the way, there is no point of saying that Kauravas were cheated, as it ultimately, it was the victory of dharma over the evil.

I love how people sympathize over Abhimanyu's FAKE "unfair" death. Anyone who read the original Vyasa Mahabharata knows that Abhimanyu was FAIRLY killed in mace fight by Dushasana's son. Yet people FALSELY sympathise on his death.

    1. At this moment Arjuna was as bruhannala . Karna don't want to expose arjuna's identity . He wants a fair war with Arjuna in kurukshetra . Rightfully he started using Vijaya bow on17th day . Do you think Arjuna able to face him with Vijaya bow . Karna just used buargawa Astra half of pandava army died and Arjuna fled with Krishna to survive the arrow rain .

    2. I agree with you that Karna wanted to have a fair war with Arjun... However, it is also true that even Arjun wanted to have an equally fair war with Karna... This is infact an endless debate that who was more superior warrior - Karna or Arjun?

Talking about the Vijay Bow, you should probably know the fact that Lord Parshuram had given a boon to Karna that he would remain victorious as long as Vijay Bow is with him. Also, one must understand that even though Karna was a great human being by nature, he was still fighting on behalf of adharmas (committed by Kauravas) because of his far too loyal friendship with Duryodhana. In such a scenario, it is definitely an acknowledged fact that no warrior in the world (leave aside Arjun for that matter) could have stood victorious against the great Karna. However, it is also equally true that in order to uphold dharma, Karna had to be defeated (as he was standing for Duryodhana - symbol of adharma). And that could have happened only when Karna would be weaponless.

So, rather than questioning the greatness of one warrior over another as well as questioning the circumstances under which one great warrior prevailed victory over another, it would be better to understand the moral behind the great Mahabharat battle and imbibe the learnings out of the same.....

      Delete
    3. Parshuram never gave any such boon to Karn . Any warrior who wields Vijay bow in a battle would be in unconquerable in a fair combat.

      Delete
    4. The Kauravas didn't know that they would have to face Arjun. They only knew that they were going to fight King Virat (who was not that powerful) and that's why they brought normal weapons and normal chariots. Otherwise, they would have brought their Divyastras and Special Chariots.

    1. That's true. Karna was incomparable, and he had all the great qualities in him to be regarded as a brave and true warrior.

But then he had also chosen the path of adharma by siding with Duryodhan & his evil acts. It was only because of this fact that Karna had to fall in the battle of Mahabharat. Plus the curses of Lord Parshuram & Brahmin given to Karna also needed to be filled. Lord Krishna - being aware of this fact advised Arjun to kill Karna at the time when he was weaponless because that was the only way by which Karna could be killed since Karna had also received a boon from Lord Parshuram that he would remain victorious as long as Vijay Bow is with him.

However, this fact, by no means, makes Arjun less superior to Karna. Throughout his life, Karna had wanted to prove himself superior to Arjun as he was denied by Guru Drona as a student in his early days. It was this incident that infuriated Karna of wanting to prove himself a better archer than Arjun. But, the viceversa was not true. In fact, Arjun was also as great an archer as Karna. It is essential to know that while Arjun possessed most celestial weapons of the Universe including Pashupatastra, he did not use them during Kurukshetra battle of Mahabharat as its impact could have been devastating for everyone on earth. Infact, Arjun made minimal use of celestial weapons in the Mahabharat war.

In case of Karna, though was a noble human being by nature, he had always been in the race of proving himself to be a better archer than Arjun. Though he promised Kunti that he would spare lives of other 4 Pandavas, he was severe on Arjun. He possessed Lord Indra's Vasavashaki and Nagastra particularly intended for Arjun, for which nobody had answer to these weapons.

Further, on seventeenth day of Mahabharata war, it seemed to be a fierce and unending battle between Arjun & Karna. To uphold dharma, Karna could only be defeated when he would be weaponless.

Moreover, Parshuram was also somewhere aware of Karna's real identity but if he would not have cursed him, he could foresee Karna's loyal friendship with Duryodhan which in turn would be catastrophic for the public good. Thus, Karna was destined to have a tragic end.

    Lets start from their births:
    1. Both Karn and Arjun are divine, as Karn was born to Sun and Arjun to Indra( comparisons should be made between Sun and Indra??)
    2. Karn learnt vidya from Lord Parushuram by Deceiving( he was denied vidya from Drona)
    3.Karn never stood for Dharma
4.Gyan of Karna is so high that he couldnt identify Duryodhan's evilness. He didnt stop Draupadi vastrabharan
    5. He didnt Stop Abhimanyu's death

    1. First of all both of them are good. But dude, some of your points are very wrong. Karna always stood for dharma. He was highly knowledgeable but he himself didn't like Draupadi at all because at various points he was locked by Pandavas and Draupadi as sutputra. He himself wanted to insult her not because of Duryodhan. That was his main and only fault which he also was very much regretful of and he knew that he was with wrong one from starting and he always giuided Duryodhan to be fair and do good. But he stood by his side because of his promise to his friend because he was only one who stood by his side when no one was supporting him. That's why. Read the original Mahabharata and analyse each and every character deeply.

  13. Stupid n childish the whole point in the blog . N what is arjun fans , karan fans ? Why do Indians have to make it a Bollywood fan vs fan thing abt everything .

Anyway , focus should be on the philosophical quotient of mahabharat not who is greater than who . Karna is used as an example who was very talented n brave but his ego n desire to be recognised as better than arjun got the best out of him n eventually he dies. He participates in wrongs with duryodhan , even egging him on as he hated pandas n dronacharya , beeshma for not allowing his glory . This is evident throughout the mahabharat . Only when he is told of his real identity dies he start to regret his past deeds . And in war he broke brakes rules n kills abhimanyu , gatochkach on duryodhans pleas . That is why in the end Krishna asks arjun to kill karna as he is weaponless .

And the virat war was / is not overblown . Arjun manages to fend off entire kuru army including karna , dronacharya , bheeshm with his divine weapons .

So it is not a question of who is best that u need to argue upon rather understand the subtle subtexts that though karna was as good if not more talented than arjun , since he could / didn't differentiate btw right n wrong , therefore he had to loose n die .

Certainly, we have no doubt about Karna's caliber as a true warrior. However, this doesn't mean that Arjun was inferior to Karna.

Further, make no mistake that the prestigious Arjuna award recognized by Govt. of India has been named after him not for nothing.

Having said that, one must not lower the dignity of Karna but the role of both these great warriors should be appreciated.

Arjuna had the Gandiva while Karna had Vijaya. Both were defeated and both gained Victory. Karna had to pay for his sins in earth while Arjuna had to pay for his sins in hell.

Sage vishwamitra used brahmastra, brahmashira astra, and pashupatastra but Brahmananda astra swallowed it all because brahmastra has 1 head, brahmashira has 4 heads but brahmanada astraล› deity is the para brahman himself. Brahma had his 5th head that Shiva cut off. Brahmananda astra had 5 heads. Bhishma and Drona possessed this astra. By the way, this question of saying who was superior & who was inferior should not arise at the first place... It gives rise to a shabby mindset of anyone who would make such sort of comparison between two great warriors of equal strength....

  21. Karna and Arjuna were two of the greatest archers of the Mahabharat era.

However, one must not forget the fact that between a battle of two great warriors, even if one of them is more skilled than the other but still wishes to fight on the path leading to massive destruction & agony for the entire public (adharma), one should always uphold the path of dharma and the question of cheating should not arise in this case.

Though, Karna was a noble human being by nature, he had always been in the race of proving himself to be a better archer than Arjun. Probably, this intense hatred towards Arjun may have brought the best in Karna. However, the evil Duryodhan & Shakuni took full advantage of him and as a matter of fact, Karna also got involved in their misdeeds and adharma either knowingly or unknowingly.

In such a scenario, whosoever may be the great / greater / greatest warriors , their death is inevitable to uphold dharma and the question of cheating does not arise.

  22. I read most of the comments but not all. Both Arjuna and Karna were great warriors and there is no doubt in it. None of the replies (I may have missed in the entries I did not read) tell the exact reason why Karna was Archenemy of only Arjuna in all five Pandavas. (I am copying and pasting)
All his life, Karna was always ridiculed and never given the respect of being a warrior. There is a story of why Karna despite being the noblest, bravest and one of the best warriors was destined to suffer his life.....

Much much before the Mahabharatha, there lived as asura called Dambhodbhava. Dambhodbhava wanted to be powerful. So he prayed to Surya, the Sun God.
Surya appeared before him, 'Open your eyes son! I am pleased with your devotion!'
Dambhodbhava bowed before him, 'Lord! I am blessed to see you!'
Surya smiled, 'I wish to grant you a boon! Ask anything from me!'
Dambhodbhava hid a smile, 'My Lord! Please make me immortal!'
Surya frowned, 'That is not possible! Everything that is born has to die! Immortality is out of question!'
Dambhodbhava's shoulder drooped. He knew that no matter how much he asked, Surya would never grant him the boon of immortality. All the time he had spent meditating were a waste....
Surya stood there patiently waiting for Dambhodbhava to ask him, when he suddenly saw a glint in Dambhodbhava's eyes. Surya's eye narrowed. Dambhodbhava bowed to him, 'My Lord! If you cannot make me immortal atleast grant me this boon!' Surya looked suspiciously as Dambhodbhava continued, 'I want to be protected by a thousand armours!'

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Surya looked at Dambhodbhava with surprise as the asura continued, 'The thousand armours can be broken only by someone who performs penance for a thousand years! And that is not all...' Surya looked at Dambhodbhava with horror as he continued, 'Whoever breaks my armour should die immediately!'
Surya was horribly worried. He knew that Dambhodbhava had performed a very powerful penance and that he could get the entire boon he had asked for. And Surya had a feeling that Dambhodbhava was not going to use his powers for good.
However having no choice in the matter, Surya granted Dambhodbhava the boon. But deep down Surya still admired Dambhodbhava for the devotion with which he prayed to him...
Surya's worries were however correct. Immediately after getting the boon from Surya, Dambhodbhava started wrecking havoc on people. People were scared of fighting with him. There was no way of defeating him. Anybody who stood in his way was crushed by him. People started calling him Sahasrakavacha [meaning one who has a thousand armours]
It was around this time that King Daksha [the father of Sati, the first wife of Shiva] got one of his daughters Murti married to Dharma - one of the 'Mind' sons of Lord Brahma, the God of Creation [It is said that Lord Brahma created his mind sons or Manas putras from his thoughts]
Murti had also heard of Sahasrakavacha and wanted to put an end to his menace. So she prayed to Lord Vishnu to come and help the people.
Lord Vishnu pleased with her appeared before her, 'Murti! I am pleased with your devotion! I will come and slay Sahasrakavacha! Because you have prayed to me, you would be the reason for slaying Sahasrakavacha!'
Murti was happy. Subsequently she gave birth to not one child, but twin sons. She named them as Narayana and Nara.

Narayana and Nara grew up in the ashrama surrounded by the forests. They enjoyed praying to Lord Shiva. Their mother also encouraged them to learn fighting. The two brothers learnt the art of warfare.
The two brothers were inseparable. What one thought the other was always able to finish. Both of them trusted each other implicitly and never questioned the other.

      Delete
  23. As time went on, Sahasrakavacha started attacking the forest ares surrounding Badrinath, where both Narayana and Nara were staying. The two sages promised the others that they would come and help them.
Nara went to Sahasrakavacha, 'Sahasrakavacha! I challenge you to a fight!'
Sahasrakavacha bellowed looking at Nara, 'You pathetic human! You really think you can defeat me! ME! The great Sahasrakavacha! Do you even know how I am protected! Do you know anything about me!'
Nara smiled and said calmly, 'You want to talk some more or are you willing to fight me?'
Sahasrakavacha looked at the calm eyes of Nara and for the first time since he got his boon, felt fear building inside him. He said nervously, 'I can be killed only by performing penance for a thousand years. You cannot....'
Nara looked at Sahasrakavacha and spoke with you. 'I have not done any penance....But my brother Narayana is doing it for me! And instead of him, I come to fight with you!'
Sahasrakavacha frowned and then started laughing, 'Seriously, you cannot think that your brother's penance would come to help you...! He is separate! He is not you! That does not count.'
Nara merely smiled at the monster, his weapons raised. Sahasrakavacha was now annoyed. This puny human was willing to challenge him to a fight and was not even remotely worried that fighting him would mean certain death for him and all for what? Destroying ONE of his armours....He still had 999 armours to go...
Sahasrakavacha raised his weapons and the fight started. Sahasrakavacha faced the attack of Nara and was astounded. He found that Nara was powerful and had indeed got a lot of power from the penance of his brother. As the fight went on, Sahasrakavacha realized that the penance of Narayana was giving Nara strength. As Sahasrakavacha's first armour broke he realized that Nara and Narayana were for all purposes one.....They were just two persons having the same soul.
But Sahasrakavacha was not too worried. He had lost one of his armours. He watched in glee as Nara dropped dead, the minute one of his armours broke!

    ReplyDelete
  24. But Sahasrakavacha was not prepared for what happened next! He blinked his eyes as he saw Nara run towards him! Sahasrakavacha could not believe what he was seeing. He had just seen Nara die before his eyes!
Sahasrakavacha focused again and saw that the sage was not running towards him but towards the fallen Nara! Sahasrakavacha remembered what Nara had told him. Narayana....
Sahasrakavacha looked at the running sage and bellowed at him, 'Your brother is dead! And all for what?' Sahasrakavacha sneered at Narayana. 'Just to destroy one of my armours!' Sahasrakavacha mocked at Narayana. 'Could you not make your brother see sense? Did he really think it was worth dying just to destroy one of armours?'
Narayana smiled and looked at his brother. He closed his eyes and muttered a mantra. Sahasrakavacha could not believe his eyes when he saw Nara wake up! Sahasrakavacha cringed as he realized that Narayana had performed penance for a thousand years and had hence obtained the 'mritunjay mantra' [It was a mantra to bring back the dead to life].
Sahasrakavacha realized that he was doomed when Narayana picked up his brother's weapon and challenged him to a fight. Nara now retired to the forest to perform the penance for the strength of his brother....
This went on. Both Nara and Narayana performed penance for a thousand years while the other fought with Sahasrakavacha. The minute Sahasrakavacha's armour was broken, the person fighting with him fell dead only to be brought back to life by the other....
Sahasrakavacha lost 999 of his armours to the twins. Realizing that he could never beat the two brothers, Sahasrakavacha gave up the fight and ran away. He decided to take refuge with the Surya as he was the one who had granted him the boon in the first place....
Narayana and Nara both went to Surya, 'Hand over that monster to us now!' Narayana said. 'He has caused havoc to the people everywhere! He is a monster!'
Surya slowly shook his head, 'My Lord! Despite everything this man has done, he is my devotee! He has worshiped me with unparalleled devotion! And he has come to me for help!' Surya vigorously shook his head. 'I cannot just turn him away now!'
Nara narrowed his eyes angrily. He pulled out some water from his kamandalam and threw it on Surya and cursed him. 'You have gone against my Narayana! He asked you for something and you refused! For this I curse you that you would be born as a human and suffer for this!' Surya bowed his head. He knew that he should not have sheltered a monster but he was willing to pay the price for his devotee.
This incident took place at the end of the Treta yuga. [In Hindu mythology there are four yugas – the Satya Yuga, the Treta yuga, Dwapara Yuga and the Kali Yuga. Each Yuga steadily results in the deterioration of human values with the worst in the Kali Yuga. At the end of each yuga, nature starts afresh.]
Immediately after Surya refused to part with Sahasrakavacha, the Treta Yuga ended and the third Yuga started.
To fulfil the promise to destroying Sahasrakavacha, Narayana and Nara were reborn – this time as Krishna and Arjuna.
Due to the curse Dambhodbhava and Surya together were born as Karna, the eldest son of Kunti! Karna was born with one of armours as a natural protection, the last one left of Sahasrakavacha.
As Arjuna would have died if Karna had had the armour, Indra [Arjuna's father] went in disguise and got the last armour of Karna, much before the war began.
As Karna was actually the monster Dambodbhava in his previous life, he led a very difficult life to pay for all the sins committed by him in his past life.
But Karna also had Surya, the Sun God inside him, so Karna was a hero as well! A hero, who was the most powerful, bravest and the most tragic warrior in the Mahabharatha....

You quote in Karna parva what he is saying but he is not saying he is using this for the first time. Infact everywhere and in most serials including the most recent one glorifying Karna , he received the bow just after completing his Gurukul - which is logical also. And it is illogical that the man is not carrying that bow to a war after it being probably his most prized possession. Rest of the things you've listed are also incorrect. Actually during various times in the war Karna lost to a) Bhima , b) Satyaki, c) Arjun d) if i remember correctly once even Yudhishtir. It is equally true that he wins over all 4 except Arjun at some point in the war as well. No one is doubting greatness of Karna BUT DO NOT DISTORT history for glorifying someone.

    1. I agree that this author has misrepresented facts and has used an abusive language to lower the dignity of great Arjun used.

However, Karna was also equally a great warrior and one must appreciate the fact that both Karna & Arjun were great in their own sense towards their respective duties and responsibilities for which they were entrusted upon.

It would be very wrong if anyone questions the ability of one great warrior towards another.

It was only the situation, circumstances as well as the respective choices made by both these warriors in terms of fighting on behalf of dharma / adharma in Mahabharata battle that determined the outcome of their battle.

Having said that, I would also say that it is not right for us to comment on the quantum of greatness of any of these two warriors. Both Karna & Arjun were equally great in their own sense and were performing their respective duties assigned to them.

  34. And the reason for Indra to beg and let karna give away his kavach was because the kavach carries a curse(see the story of Dambhodbhava asura which was Karna in previous birth) that whomever breaks it will die immediately. So even if Arjun broke it he would die instantly. It was part of the 1000 armours given as a boon to him by none other than surya dev in his previous birth.

And the reason why Karna was ridiculed throughout his life was because of the curse by Nara Narayana's in his previous birth. But his devotion to surya dev let Karna be the sun god's own son in this birth. Eventually he attained moksha from the cycle of births being remembered forever as a great warrior and a benevolent person because of all the good deeds and sacrifices he did during his birth as Karna. This is a great lesson that even if you escape after doing wrong in this life you will be reborn to pay the price in another life.

  37. One humble contribution. When 2 ultra powered divyastras clash there is a very harmful effect on the vicinity. Ashwatthama firing his brahma weapon at the end of the war reveals this. In virat yudha cows were there in vicinity ( this incident is called go rakshan )Hence karna didnt fire his divyastras ie the one which he fired at kurukshetra. When he did arjuna only has burnt chariot to show. Karna too had pasupata astra apart from bhargava astra. But he was a responsible warrior and didnt fire astra at discretion. At gandharva attack also cow were there ( they were doing some cattle counting ) Fact is arjuna needed protection from karna on quite a few times. Its a fact.

The nuicance and nounsence extracts presented here simply show the frustrated writer ..who could have changed facts and even results .just to prove that..and under privileged warrior .who could not even complete his dhanurved training .and was so egoist all the time to defeat the greatest archer of that time ,that he never ever tried to improvise his skills .weapons and art .
Being skilled and great has nothing to do with victory .it always blesses those..whi constantly improvise themselves like the one dedicated Arjuna..and thats why he is considered best archer of that ara .
Not the one who git defeated in every single occasion ti prove his legacy..be it at drupad war ,at virat yudh.,when duryodhana was caught by villegers ,and several times just left alive in great war.by bhima.,satyaki.,abhimanyu ..

  43. The entire crux of Mahabharat is about the victory of dharm on adharm. Karna was part of the plan for burning Pandavas, disrobing kunti and was on the side of adharm. He might be a great warrior but without dharm talent is a waste and thats why krishna explained to karna between uttam and shresht. jo Dharm kei saath hota hei, wo uttam hota hei

  46. Karna was the witness of all conspiracy made by Durdodhyan. He always supported him so he was equally accused like Duryodhan. He must be punished. A great warrior always should bear a good moral character but Karna enjoyed humiliation of Draupadi along with all jealous Kauravas. His elimination from the world was required that's why Lord Krishna did so for establishing a good King in future for people. Karna was an auxiliary character in Mahabharat. But Arjun was the central and most iconic character. Don't compare one side role character with the hero. Arjun was the great warrior for all time.

  47. Duryodhan never considered Pandavas as his brothers because Pandavas were born using a mantra(spell) because Pandu had a curse.

In her Swayamwar Draupadi insulted Karna by calling him a Sutputra in front of everyone present because she knew Karna could do it.
She also insulted Duryodhana saying blind father's son is also blind.
    I just have only question
They say Pandavas fought for Dharma but wat and where is this Dharma?
Karna was indeed a great warior, that is why Indra asked his Kavach and Kundal.Krishna revealed to Karna that Pandavas were his brother but didn't reveal it to the Pandavas.Kunti pleaded for Panadavas life with Karna but didnt tell the Pandavas untill Karna was dead.Karna was weakened and Arjun was strengthened.Pandavas won only because of Lord Krishna.Kurukshethra was a war for Kingdom. If it was for Dharma then why couldnt the Pandavas make it to the heaven except for Yudhishtr?

  51. Don't be a fan of a particular character of the epic, be a fan of the epic itself.

The epic's purpose was to remove adharma and give humanity a lesson. It was NOT TO GLORIFY KARNA OR ARJUNA.

Arjuna was on side of dharma and hence no matter how much powerful Karna might be, he was unable to kill Arjuna.

Whatever boons and protection Arjuna received were because of his karma, contrary to that, Karna got all sorts of curses because of his karma.

One more thing to note is that Arjuna never wanted to be better than someone while Karna was always competing with his own younger brother to prove who is greater.

Even after writing all of these things people don't understand that instead of talking Karna vs Arjuna, go ahead and do something that is useful to the world and you.

It really doesn't matter who is better... The truth is that Karna got killed and Arjuna was alive till the end of the war and beyond.

By the way, a lot of claims (actually all) like arjuna was protected by Hanuman or he was having celestial chariot or he was fighting opponents one-by-one is WRONG and can be proven easily... The problem is cherry-picking done here to make things in favor of Karna.

The only TRUE thing in this whole thread was that Arjuna had his celestial bow Gandiva... But to be honest, if only a celestial bow was enough to slay all the maharathis then I don't think they are even maharathis. Gandiva was always used by Arjuna because it was the only bow which can suit his strength, which ordinary bows were unable to. Just sitting in a aeroplane doesn't make one able to fly it, just like that it requires skill and focus to acheive success NOT A CELESTIAL BOW.

    1. I am also not a fan of any character but don't you think that you are in arms up against Karna? You have acted as if you are unbiased but you are not.
If you were, then you would have not read this post
I opened it because I like to compare two very powerful characters but I never disregarded any of the character. I also like to compare Kishore Kumar and Md. Rafi because they were 2 equally capable singers but I never disregarded any of the two similarly I respect both karna and Arjun.
Yes, you are right that Arjun was on the side of the 'dharma' but that does not mean that Karna was 'adharmi'
Lord Krishna offered him the throne and was sad on his death so he cannot be 'adharmi' because Lord Krishna would have never offered the throne to a person who follows 'adharm'
Yes, I accept that he was wrong in humiliating Draupadi but that was just a black spot on his character.
It is said that every black cloud has a silver lining. The opposite is also true.
He followed his 'dharma'. It was his dharm to help Duryodhan because Duryodhan helped at a time when he most needed someone's help and it was his duty to fight from his friend's side.
Just imagine he could have ruled the whole world if he would have joined the Pandavas but he still fought against them. This is what makes him respectable.
As far as his martial skills are concerned, it is true that he was not as great as Arjun but he was good. Lord Parshuram himself said that he never taught a student like Bhishma and Karna. He gifted Vijay dhanush to Karna because of his impressive skills.
You said that Karna received curses because of his bad deeds but what bad deeds?
He lied to his 'guru' because if would have told the truth then he would not been able to get educated. He tolerated unbearable pain so that Lord Parshuram do not get disturbed while sleeping and after that he was cursed. He mistakenly killed a cow and the owner of the cow cursed him while he did not have any intentions to kill the cow.
He always insulted Dronacharya and Bhishma but you must accept that he was justified in his part. There is a reaction to every action.
You said Arjun never wanted to prove himself better than Karna. Yes, you are right because everyone accepted him the best so what was the need to prove that?
Arjun was protected by Lord Hanuman and enjoyed many other advantages in virat yudh. Just imagine how could he defeat all the mighty three - Karna, bhishma and dronacharya single handedly and if so then why cheat in the main war. What was the need to bring shikhandi in front, why lie to dronacharya about Ashwathama 's death, why kill karna when he was weaponless and defenseless.
Lastly, you said only gandiv was a bow which suits Arjun's strength. Sorry, but it is not bows which must suit to warrior' s strength, it is warrior's strength which must suit to the bow. A capable warrior can even use ordinary bows to defeat his opponents. If you give Shakuni divine bows, even he will perform very well and this is the reason why warriors considered to use divine bows again their prestige. Karna also had a divine bow but he hardly used it.
You said that jus sitting in a plane doesn't make one able to fly it. Yes, you are right but if someone already knows the skill to fly a plane then a better plane will improve his /her performance. Similarly, if someone knows how to use bows and arrows then celestial bows will improve their performance but the same person cannot perform equally well with an ordinary bow.
      Thanks

Granted Arjun also did evil deeds by not protecting draupadi in the game of dice but he had paid for his sins in the 13 years of punishment. So when the ear began he was way more pure than Karna. God does not pick sides they go for who is with dharma and Arjun was therefore it is not a blatant favouritism advantage Arjun had that you can claim it was easier for him.
